Learner Qualities

Learner Qualities are those behaviours that enhance a student’s ability to learn.
Learner Qualities are ‘life skills’. These are the same qualities that are essential for success at school and in everyday life.
By learning these behaviours now, students will be preparing for a successful future throughout their schooling and beyond.
At Wodonga Primary School we focus on the five Learner Qualities of Reflect, Persist, Connect, Self Aware and Question.

Persist

‘We had to work as a team to make an underwater poster. Our Learning Intention was to work with others in a team, and sharing the task.  To be successful we had to stay focussed and not distract each other.  We also had to work out who was doing which part of the poster.” ~ 2JH.

Connect

‘We use the Learner Quality Connect when we think about our writing goals.  In Year 5 we use the Dance Mat which has our writing learning intentions on it.  We connect with our current learning to choose what we will set for our next goal.” 5KL

Reflect

A sense of belonging, commitment and shared responsibility.
Wodonga Primary School is committed to the community in three areas ~ school, local and global.

Self Aware

As Self Aware learners we think about whether we have a fixed or a growth mindset.  Sometimes when we’re challenged by our learning and we’re in The Pit, we need to have a growth mindset to be successful with our learning. We feel motivated when we get out of The Pit and feel we’re successful learners.

Question

“We use the Learner Quality Question to help us understand new things.  We can ask a partner, or a group, or our teacher.  We’re learning to be responsible for asking questions to help us when we are in The Pit.  This helps us continue with our learning.”  3MB
