CURRICULUM

Literacy & Numeracy:

At Wodonga Primary School we recognise that the development of strong literacy and numeracy skills is an essential part of our program.
Through focused teaching and ongoing tracking of student progress, each child is provided with the activities and programs required to develop strong skills.
The Early Years Literacy and Numeracy Programs are key aspects of our daily curriculum in Years Prep to 4. The Middle Years strategies are implemented in Years 5 & 6.

Physical Education / Sport:

At Wodonga Primary we
support students physical as well as academic growth. We believe that positive attitudes to sport are set in the Early Years so we involve students in a range of activities. A commitment to Sport and Physical Education continues throughout the primary years. Our sporting program includes:

♦Perceptual Motor Program that promotes fine and gross motor skills
♦Specialist Physical Education sessions
♦Physical Education Platoon sessions
♦Bike Education lessons
♦Interschool sport
♦Cross Country running
♦Athletics
♦Zone representation
♦Camping program
♦Swimming program

LOTE:

We conduct Japanese lessons for all students at Wodonga Primary School. Students explore the differing culture of Japanese life as well as learning the language.
Our Prep students quickly begin to use the verbal language and gradually are introduced to the reading and writing of Japanese characters. A student Japanese drum team and dance troupe perform at a range of occasions.

The Arts:

We embrace the Arts via an exciting program including:

Music ~ students have the opportunity to participate in both vocal and instrumental music. Students can join various choirs that perform throughout Wodonga, including the local Eisteddfod. Wodonga Primary School continues to participate in the State Schools’ Spectacular in Melbourne, giving our students the opportunity to perform in dance and song with a large audience.

Art / Craft ~ students experience the many elements of creating artwork using a range of materials. We are proud of the work that students produce—displaying it around our school, in the community and as part of the Wodonga Arts Festival.
Students have regular sessions in the Art room.

Information & Communication Technology:

At Wodonga Primary School we place a high value on the use of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) to enhance and support our curriculum. All students have access to computers. Each classroom has a number of computers available for daily use and the Library has a large bank of computers that can be used in library sessions and lunchtimes.
We promote a variety of software that continually challenges our students and relates either specifically to curriculum-based outcomes or openended software.
Interactive Whiteboards are installed in many classrooms.
We maintain a web presence for community communication and welcome you to browse our website:
